The Motto
In 1908, the first lifeboat in Nazaré was built by the caulker António Carmo Oliveira or António Cigano, called Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos. The Barca was at rest in the Captaincy of Nazaré, right next to the Church of Nª. Mrs. of the Afflicted. The Sea, earns bread, often put fishermen in situations of distress, when that happened, the ringing of the bell was the signal to leave, and... "there goes Barca to enter the sea"!
